We love high speed at Green Door Films, we were the first to use the Phantom HD digital high-speed video cameras here in the UK and Europe as a direct source of slow-motion material for production on a Hyundai Car Commercial. We have now moved onto the Phantom Flex. Our "capture services” are recognised, trusted and respected by the television and film industry. Our EMMY award winning technicians have years of high-speed experience and can discuss with your Director and DoP the best way to achieve the required shot. We are unique in that we are not affiliated to any other company whether it is equipment rental, effects facility, Director or Director of Photography.
Our Phantom Flex cameras are now used directly for slo-mo effects. Using instant replay the Director can better evaluate what will or will not work and by fine tuning lighting and exposure the DoP and Director are able to explore and build upon an idea during the shoot. If a take does not work or look right the camera is ready to try again within seconds.
With its 2,560 X 1,600 active pixel CMOS sensor, this new Phantom is not just a high-speed camera, but an instrument that gives the cinematographer 35mm depth of field either at HD or 2.5K resolutions! The Phantom Flex now combines the visual quality of high-definition imaging with the high frame rates of specialty cameras. Whether your imaging needs encompass broadcasts of rapidly moving sports events, the production of commercials, a music video, an award-winning documentary, monitoring a rocket launch, or possibly you are an innovative cinematographer working on a special film project that needs "a new look" to tell the story, the flexibility and virtually limitless control of the Flex will provide you with outstanding results.
Creative Control
Now there is a camera that gives you complete creative control over time. The Phantom Flex allows you to select any frame rate from 1 to 2,500 fps in increments of one frame per second at HD resolution. With the Phantom camera's shutter, variable to 1/500,000 second, and radically adjustable framing rates, you have seamless control of the duration, speed and time of a story element. Of course with the Phantom you will know exactly how your shot looks immediately. The Phantom Flex's sensor is truly unique, capable of 2.5K imaging for cinema, or HD for projects geared towards television production, and the vertical image size can also be changed in 8 pixel increments. Pixels measure 10 microns, and 12-bit A/D converters provide sensitivity and image quality that has to be seen to be believed. These features insure excellent image quality even at speeds of 2,500 fps, regardless of the application.
Multi-Standard Compliant Output
The Flex has allocated formats for standard HD 16:9 (1920 x 1080 pixels) and 35mm at 1.85:1 making this camera fully compatible with all 35mm equipment. The Flex can be configured for "live" broadcast or studio production and has a continuous video output that includes HD (720p, 1080p, 1080i) standards. Multiple triggering and recording modes are available. Pick your viewing option, the Phantom Flex is compatible with any +12vdc YPrPb viewfinder or monitor making shooting any subject clear and precise. The camera can also be controlled and image files downloaded using a Gigabit Ethernet to PC connection, and files can be converted TIFF stacks, MOV, or AVI formats using the included Phantom software package.
Flexible Memory Storage
The Phantom Flex from Green Door Films has 32GB’s of internal memory and as an option the CineMags are hot-swappable non-volatile solid state recorders. These low profile modules mount snugly to the top of the camera body and store 256 GB’s each. When one of these storage magazines is filled, the CineStation allows downloading of the images to a PC running the Phantom software.
Configuration
The camera can be supplied with either a Nikon, Arri PL or Panavision PV lens mount. A riser block raises the camera to Arri height. In this configuration standard Arri BP-6 or BP-8 Bridge & Balance Plate, 19mm bars and Matt Box are compatible with the Phantom HD from GreenDoorFilms. In this supplied configuration, most Arri lenses and lens accessories can be used with the camera.
Using the BTF 3D STEREO Rig from British Technical Films, we can now produce glorious 3D high-speed images. This rig has been specially designed for our Phantom Flex cameras. (Check our links page).
